2007 July Trip to Thunder Bay, etc.

Monday, we headed north through Wisconsin on a cloudy, rainy day, through Superior, Wisconsin, and then over the bridge to Duluth.  From there we went to Gooseberry Falls where we saw two deer.  We did some hiking by the river at TettegoucheA picture containing nature, tree, outdoor, water

Tuesday, we hiked by the river at Temperance River State Park and stopped at a new park at Sugar Beach with an interpretive trail about woods and logging.  It was interesting.

Thursday, we drove east to the Ouimet Canyon where we walked 1 km to the rim.  There were two viewing platforms and tame chipmunks.  On the way back we stopped at the Terry Fox monument.  It had a great view of the sleeping giant.  Next, we went to Fort William.

There was a beautiful new visitor center.  In the fort we tasted several food samples and visited with the living history actors – a farmer, blacksmith, Indian girl, voyageurs, and their wives.  They all did a good job.

Next, we went to a shopping center under threatening clouds.  We spent the rest of the rainy afternoon in our motel, going out for a Chinese supper.

Friday was a clear day.  We set out early to see Kakabeka Falls, viewing it from both sides of the river.  There was a lot of water – it was beautiful and loud.  We headed home through International Falls.  On the way we ran into some construction and one long wait.  We got home at 7:30 pm.
